INSTAT: In May 2019, 68.8% of all Transports Were Carried Out by Air

TIRANA, June 28

In May 2019, the total number of flights was 2936, marking an increase of 17.2% compared to May 2018. This means that in May 2019, at the only international airport of Albania, ‘Mother Theresa Airport’ was carried out approximately 77 flights per day.

In May 2019, the transport by air was 68.8% of total transports (by air, by sea and via land). The number of passengers who traveled by air, in the first five months of 2019 was 1.100.491, rising 10.9% compared to the same period of last year. Also, the number of citizens who traveled by sea, in May 2019 was 108.629, registering an increase of 3.2% compared to the same month of last year.

During the month of May 2019, 820.164 Albanian and foreign citizens have entered Albania, registering an increase of 5% compared to May 2018. Also, the entrance of foreign citizens in Many 2019 saw a rise of 1.7% compared to the same month of last year.

The number of foreign citizens that have entered Albania from the period January-May 2019, was 1.506.618., marking an increase of 5.8% with the same period of last year. In May 2019, the biggest number of entrances were recorded by the citizens of Switzerland, followed by Spain and Italy. Whereas, the number of Kosovo residents that have entered Albania during the month of May 2019 saw a decrease of 18.7%, followed by Poland and the U.K.

The number of Albanian and foreign residents that have exited Albania during the last month, was 880.689, marking a rise of 4.9% compared to May 2018. The number of Albanian citizens that went abroad from January- June 2019, was 2.196.873, marking an increase of 10.7% compared to the same period of last year.
