TIRANA, 11 September
Tirana International Film Festival (TIFF) which starts this 23 September is considered one of the most important cinematic and cultural events not only in Albania but in the whole Balkan region. During its 7-day-long run, there will be presented different films and documentaries in two divisions, competition, and non-competition. In the competition category, international juries comprised of film writers, directors, producers, and critics, will give awards during the closing ceremony. The categories where they compete are for:

An interesting fact is that the winner of the Best Short Film in TIFF will be eligible for consideration in the Animated Short Film/ Live Action Short Film category of the Academy Awards, known as Oscars in the U.S.A. The films and documentaries will be shown in two cinemas of the capital city, in Millenium and Agimi cinemas respectively.
Created since 2003, TIFF aims to create a cultural center of worldwide alternative and independent cinema, but at the same time to be a meeting point of cultures, where residents from Tirana, the guests and all those who love films will have a cinema-language during its week of presentation. Besides the competition program, TIFF reserves a space for the special showcases and programs. The theme of this year will be the ‘Transition’, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Berlin Wall’s fall. Whereas the motto of this year is ‘No Change, Exchange’.
The Tirana International Film Festival will finish on 29 September, with the presentation of the movie ‘Open door’ by the director Florenc Papas, which had its worldwide premiere in the Sarajevo Film Festival.
