After more than two weeks of heavy rains and massive flooding, the Ministry of Agriculture has published the balance of damages and looses in country’s south. The preliminary controls and reported data show that in the flooded areas of Fier, Vlore, Lushnje and Berat about 2020 livestock drowned, 339 pigs, 69500 poultry and 460 beehives. Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Jani Babi declared that flooding have destroyed a 1800 meter linear line snail growing farm and several greenhouses.
Working groups are still on ground with foreign experts and are identifying damages caused by rivers overflow in drainages and waterworks, and will compile preventives and projects for an immediate intervention for their recuperation.
The lost animals will be compensated for each farmer, declared deputy Minister Babi, while work still continues in the exact identification of looses due to flooding, which until now are estimated to reach the amount of 2 million euros.
Many rural areas in southern Albania collapsed after Vjosa and Osumi rivers overflowed due to heavy rains which did not stop for almost two weeks. This caused massive flooding in lower relief areas and hundreds of families were evacuated from their flooded houses.
