TIRANA, August 19
The rise of the loans for the business is based mainly in the sector of small to medium enterprises. According to data by the Bank of Albania, the credit in this segment was increased by Lek4.5 billion, during the second half of 2019. Excluding the effect of the deleted credits and currency exchange, the portfolio of the credits for small to medium enterprises (SME) is raised by 9% compared to a year ago. According to the Bank of Albania, the positive developments, are noticed especially in the loans for small businesses.
Meanwhile, the pace of the increase of the credits for corporates is slowed down by 5.3%, compared to 6.2% in the first trimester of 2019, giving a smaller contribution to the expansion of the portfolio of the credit. In a long-term analysis, it seems that the credit of the business is less concentrated in the big corporates. In 2015, the credit for the big businesses comprised more than 61% of the total credits for the business, whereas in the middle of this year it comprised less than 54%. This decrease has come at the same time, as a result of the significant loans of the lost loans, but as well from the setback of the loans in this segment. The biggest increase is registered in the segment of the small business, which now makes up 17.5% of the credit, three times more than in 2015.
These changes in the structure of the loans for the business are connected especially with the attempts of commercial banks to lower the big concentrations in the segment of corporates and to ensure a reasonable distribution of the creditβs risk. This strategy has brought an improvement of the offer even for the loans for the individuals, that for years has remained stable.
