Korca and Vlora are the biggest producers of fruits since these counties have the biggest surface planted with fruit trees. INSTAT figures show that during the past year, the production of fruit trees reached the amount of 220.000 tons in these counties.
The production of fruit trees increased by 0.9% during the past year compared to 2013, says the report. Also, the amount of new fruit trees sowed and the surfaces with vineyards have increased with the aim to boost production. Fruits and vegetables are products of export and bring revenues to the country’s economy each year.
The number of new sowed fruit trees in 2014 increased by 2.89%, the olive trees by 4.34%, citrus trees by 6.66% and vineyard surfaces increased by 2.01%. Korca county is the biggest producer of fruits in the country and has the biggest surface of planted fruit trees.
In turn, Vlora keeps maintaining the first position regarding the amount of citrus production, producing approximately 10.657 tons during 2014. In total, the production of citrus throughout the land increased by 5% during 2014 comparing to 2013.
