TIRANA, October 11
Over 350 German cyclists and journalists from Bayerischer Rundfunk, a public-service radio and television broadcaster based in Munich joined a bike tour from the Port of Vlora to the ancient city of Apollonia in Fier on Tuesday. They preferred to reach by bike the site that is located about 50 km from Vlora. Bike tours are now a novelty offered to Albanian and international visitors by tourist’s operators and agencies.
Apollonia is located about 12 from the city of Fier. Archaeologists call it Albania’s Pompeii because so far, only ten percent of the ancient city’s territory has been discovered. The vast land that is home to numerous monuments, the amazing scenery and views over the Adriatic Sea, the new road and the favourable location nearby important cities and southern Riviera make Apollonia a top-notch destination for cultural tourism in Albania.
Meanwhile, the number of visitors to the park increased due to the cruise ships that visited the bay of Vlora. One of them dropped anchor last Friday and about 150 Belgian tourists visited Apollonia and Berat.
