During the past year the number of bank accounts increased by 7% while for the two last years, they increased by 11%. Bank of Albania’s statistical report on bank accounts shows that 2.73 million of them are active bank accounts opened by individuals, and 160.000 business bank accounts.
In comparison to bank accounts opened by residents, those opened by nonresident subjects have decreased in past years. In 2011, 31.000 was the number of bank accounts opened by nonresidents, while in November 2014 their number decreased to 21.000.
