During a speech, the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said the energy sector needs a rapid intervention by implementing all required reforms.
Speaking about the citizens concern regarding the increase of energy price, Rama vowed not to increase the energy price but the reform will make possible the removal of the price limit shield. This price limit upon which has been based the paying scheme for energy, has been a misused manner by businessmen to steal energy and has harmed citizens at the same time.
“We will not remove this limit by leaving all the weight on pensioners or families that cannot pay more for energy. We will pay the energy for them, as an obligation that comes from the removal of this limit. We will see it in this Parliament how it will happen”, Rama declared.
According to the PM, the energy system is in risk and may explode as a bomb due to mismanagement and energy theft for a long time. “If we do not face this problem today with this reform, it will be more difficult to face it in the next years. We will be forced to either use all the state’s budget for the energy, or citizens will have to pay even more for this irresponsibility”, stated Edi Rama.
The entire state institutions related to energy system will cooperate, according to Rama, in order to punish energy thieves and warned a wide police operation in the whole country. He also accused the high officials of the Administrative Court for corruption, for allowing the devastation of this sector.
“After a few days, the state police will be part of this operation. All illegal connections will be treated like the drugs in Lazarat. They consume as much as an entire neighborhood”, ended his word Rama.
