Greenhouses have become a trend in the agricultural investments during the latest years. Ministry of Agriculture announced that domestic and foreign investors have taken in consideration the importance of the production of fresh vegetables, by marking an increase of production in this sector. Statistics show that only during the first trimester of 2014, the production in greenhouses increased by 53% and compared to two years ago, the production of vegetables by using greenhouses increased by 200%. Following this trend, the Ministry has announced that funding and supporting schemes for the agriculture sector will increase day by day.
In Albania there are about 1000 hectares of solar greenhouses and about 50-60 hectares of heating greenhouses. The figures do not satisfy the needs of the Albanian market and compared to the regional countries, Albania has not invested as needed in the greenhouses production. For this reason, the Ministry of Agriculture is planning to invest the most amount of the funding projects for 2015 in the greenhouses production. The aim is to triple the number of solar greenhouses.
Investing in greenhouses is a profitable and long term investment since the domestic and external demand for fresh vegetables will always be high and the climate conditions of Albania make it easy to farmers to achieve their goals.
