TIRANA, 3 September
The market of land-line broadband is reaching the threshold of 400.000 subscribers. The Electronic and Postal Communication Authority reports an increase with the fast pace of this indicator, even in the first half of this year. At the end of June 2019, the reported number of subscribers from the operators was 399.000. Since the beginning of this January, the trade counts 30.000 more subscribers, whereas compared to the same period of last year, the number of subscribers was increased with 80.000 more.
The majority of the subscribers of the internet, use the line to receive more than one communication service, including the landline and the TV set. The number of residents that take at least two of these services at the same time, has reached the 231.000 subscribers, with an annual growth of 10%. Whereas 108.000 subscribers receive at the same time three services, through an only internet line.
The internet service with landlines has still high potentials for growth if we take into account that Albania has still low penetration of these services compared to the developed economies. On its annual report of 2018, AKEP states that even though the number of subscribers with access to landlines, is in sustainable growth, the norm of penetration is much lower than the E.U. countries, and the Balkan region. In 2018, the norm of penetration of broadband access from landlines was 50% per household, and 12.6% per number of inhabitants. Recently, this market is withdrawing important foreign investors.
