Fier Agri-Food Exports Find Expanding Markets in Asia

TIRANA, July 25

Agricultural exports from the area of Fier, south-central Albania, during the first half of 2016 increased by 141 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Based on the data provided by the Local Directorate of agriculture, some 500,000 tons more of agriculture products, mainly fruits and vegetables, were exported during the first six months of this year. Exports during June reached up to 21,000 tons of products such as greenhouse vegetables and strawberries.
Specialist Nuredin Baboci said that even potato export increased. According to him, about 250 tons of potato were exported during 2014-2015, but this figure climbed to 960 tons during 2016.
Moreover, even the import of cucurbit products increased. Over 11,300 tons of watermelon were exported. Meanwhile, the foreign market demand increased even for other products, especially for cabbage and leek.
According to the agriculture directorate in Fier region, even the export map increased beyond the European Union and expanded to Asia.
