Local media in Albania announced the explosion of two oil wells in Marinze village, in the area where Bankers Petroleum Canadian company is doing hydrocarbons exploitation. The explosion has put in danger the inhabitants living at the area near the oil wells, which have been evacuated by the authorities.
According to local media, the gases released from the explosion of the oil well number 8 has polluted the environment, which has led to the cancellation of Bankers’ activity in this area by the Inspectorate of the Environment.
“Bankers Petroleum activity has been cancelled until the company takes all the measures in the treatment of the wastes of the explosion. The company is not allowed to throw these wastes in ecologic pits,” is stated in the official announcement of the Inspectorate of Environment.
Minister of Energy and Industry held an urgent meeting with the administrator of Albpetrol state owned oil company and the Prefect of Fier city, representatives of Bankers Petroleum and local high authorities regarding the dangerous explosion in Marinze area.
Gjiknuri declared that the situation is under control, adding that the government will demand explanations from Bankers Petroleum regarding the explosions that threatened the lives of the locals.
