Banja Hydro Power Plant (HPP) is the first hydro-energetic project that was completed and put into service in Devoll Cascade. The construction of Banja HPP started in June 2013 and over 2,000 people were employed for this project. The installed capacity of the HPP is 73Mw while the dam is 80 meters high. The reservoir has a total volume of 391 billion litres of water and it covers an area of 14 square km.
Statcraft Company is currently building the second HPP of Moglica, which is expected to end in 2018. So far the investment in this project is Euro 289 million and it is expected that by the conclusion of the project it will be Euro 535 million. When the construction of both HPPs will end, it is expected that the power generated will cover about 17 percent of Albaniaโs need for electric power.
According to devollhydropower.al Banja HPP, as part of the Devoll Hydropower Project, will extensively contribute to renewable energy projects in Albania, best utilizing the potential of Devoll River Cascade. Banja HPP is owned and operated by the Norwegian company Statkraft AS, a leader in the European Market of Renewable Energy.
