TIRANA, January 29
For decades, Mercedes–Benz would be the most wanted car brand among Albanian drivers. Not anymore.
The latest data from the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) hint that Albanians are falling out of love with ‘the Benz’, but not with cars in general.
Data on road transport for the last quarter (Q4) of 2023 show that the German car was still ruling the roads, during said period. Based on the data, there were a total a total of 867,765 motor vehicles. Mercedes-Benz accounted for 18.0 percent of the total( 156,603 vehicles).
However, in terms of cars registered for the first time during the last three months of 2023, Volkswagen tops the list. This car brand accounted for 21.8 percent, or 4,779 vehicles registered for the first time in Albania during the third quarter of 2023.
Mercedes – Benz comes second accounting for 17.5 percent of first-time registered vehicles, or 3,838 cars.
The list continues with Audi, Ford, Toyota, Daimler Chrysler, Fiat, BMW, Opel, etc.
On the other hand, Albanian buyers are not affected by international trends. Younger generations living in rich countries are losing interest in cars or in getting driving licenses.
In Albania, the number of vehicles registered for the first time during Q4, 2023 increased by 55,0 percent compared to the same period of 2022.
