The Swiss daily newspaper, 20 Minuten has dedicated on Saturday, 31 August, an article regarding tourism in Albania. The article titled ‘Swiss on vacation in Albania’, tells about a huge increase in demand of the people from Switzerland booking and wanting to come for holidays in the Mediterranean country.
According to the newspaper, the booking inquiries for the Balkan country have gone through the ceiling. This is shown by the new booking data of the online platform Ebookers. Between January and July 2019, hotel bookings regarding Albania by Swiss citizens increased by an average of 80%, compared to the same period of last year. Also, in July 2019 the bookings were 180% more than in July 2018.
Half of these bookings were made for beach destinations, and Swiss tourists prefer the coasts of Durres, Saranda, Himara, Orikum, Velipoja, Vlora for this kind of vacation. Also, a percentage of Swiss chose the cities of Gjirokastra or Korca, for their cultural tourism. Whereas, Tirana, the capital city, remains the most preferred destination for their holidays in Albania.
20 Minuten is a free daily newspaper in Switzerland, distributed on metro stations all over the country, and since 2004 has surpassed the other German-language daily newspaper, Blick in terms of the number of readers.
