TIRANA, July 19
It seems that the number of tourists that visit the whitewashed town of Berat during these hot days of summer is going to surpass the number of its windows. Berat is one of the remarkable destinations in Albania also recognised as the city of one thousand windows. The UNESCO World Heritage site is welcoming more than 700 visitors every day. Based on the data offered by the Tourism and Heritage Office at the Municipality of Berat, the number of visitors during the first half of 2016 increased by 40 percent compared to the previous year.
During the weekends the city gets crowded by foreign and Albanian visitors. In order to attract more tourists, the local institution responsible for cultural heritage drafted a calendar of cultural activities that includes artisanal fairs, concerts, open air exhibitions, evenings dedicated to children and many other events. Currently, the Multicultural Festival is taking place in the city.
Director of Tourism Renualt Mimani said that the calendar aims at entertaining the visitors that come to Berat, in order that they stay in the city for a long period of time.
All the cultural events take place in the city’s pedestrians’ street and attracted the interest of more and more visitors.
