TIRANA, August 4
Nikaj-Mertur area in northern Albania is often lauded to the sky for its natural beauty, culture, costumes, traditions, and especially for its hospitality. The latter was proven on Wednesday when a group of 16 British tourists decided to explore the area. They stayed at the inns in Bris village, but the problem was that this and many other villages lacked electric power supply for some days.
Therefore, the inhabitants of the area in order to fill all the needs of their guests decided to bring an electric power generator from the neighbouring community of Salc. Given that the only way of connection between the two locations is through narrow paths, a group of young men decided to carry the electric generator for three hours along a goat track.
The remote area of Nikaj-Mertur is a great destination for adventure-seekers and fans of outdoor recreational activities. The inhabitants of Bris and Salc proved their hospitality, but on the other hand, they also proved that the area needs more attention in terms of investments, infrastructure, power supply and medical aid assistance. All these are necessary in order to provide visitors with the basic needs as they help the economy of the local community.
