World Bank and Albanian government have successfully finalized the negotiations to grant a loan of $150 ml which will be used for improvements in the energy sector in country.
This investment of Albania’s government it is expected to improve the energy sector services for consumers regarding to electricity distribution and bill payment. Another problematic aspect of this sector that is expected to improve after receiving the loan, is the eradication and the avoidance of illegal connections in the network.
The World Bank’s country director for the Western Balkans Ellen Goldstein, showed her support for this loan as a good initiative for the further modernization of this sector. Also, Mrs. Goldstein evaluated the agreement achieved between Albania and CEZ company, one of the main reforms asked to be made by Goldstein during 2013.
This important investment will improve the quality of service regarding consumers and reduce the loss in the energy distribution from 42% which is the current level, to 20% until 2018. Another important reform is the application of EU’s legislation regarding this field and the funding of energy imports during the drought period.
