The World Bank will provide a EUR 55 million fund for the Urban Rehabilitation of Southern Albania regions, a five year term project which aims to improve the infrastructure and revitalize urban areas in southern Albania cities. The WB support was announced in a meeting the World Bank working group and representatives held with representatives of the Municipalities that have applied for funding for several infrastructure public projects. At the meeting, the WB experts clarified the criteria set for projects that will be selected as winners.
According to the vise Minister of Urban Development, Gjon Radovani, the objectives of this project will be the identification of regions where the impact of such investment in infrastructure will be reflected in the region’s economic development.
The winning projects will be announced within a few months and is expected that their implementation will start in June of this year, according to Paula Restrepo Cadavid, Project Manager at the World Bank. The EUR 55 million investment aims to develop the infrastructure of southern Albania regions as a way to boost the local economy and to increase the tourism potential in these areas.
