TIRANA, November 8
Albania and Hungary are ready to increase economic cooperation between them and the establishment of direct flights between both countries by Wizz Air will serve for this purpose. This was the mutual stance of Albanian Minister of Economy Milva Ekonomi and The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Szijjarto. They held a meeting during the 16+1 business forum that took place in Riga.
Both ministers pointed out that the fact that trade cooperation between Albania and Hungary has increased. Data show that trade volume in 2015 increased by 41 percent compared to 2014.
Ekonomi said that currently, 43 Hungarian businesses are present in Albania, but their number must increase as the country has numerous opportunities for doing business.
Further on, the start of direct flights Budapest-Tirana and vice-versa by Wizz Air during the first quarter of 2017is a crucial development for both countries. It will serve for increasing economic cooperation and tourism.
On his part, Szijjarto stressed that both countries must intensify cooperation between businesses and commerce chambers. He also said that Hungary will give scholarships for 20 Albanian students.
The ministers also discussed the organization of the Cultural Heritage Week. Meanwhile, they also exchanged ideas on ongoing assistance by the Hungarian side on water management and civil aviation. At the end of the meeting, they agreed to create the necessary conditions for a twinning project between the cities of Kruja in Albania and Eger in Hungary.
