Albania signed an agreement with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a contract that will fund the contruction of Vlora bypass with approximately 18ml EUR. This important project it is expected to contribute in the improvement of infrastructure and road traffic in the city of Vlora.
Albanian Minister of Finances, Shkëlqim Cani said: “The project for the construction of the Vlore bypass is among the priorities of this government, based on the National Strategy for Development and Integration. Its objective is to increase the speed of movement, to free the traffic, to increase the commodity and safety on the road, and to improve the environment situation in Vlore.
The realization of this project is very important for the development of southern Albania, for the industrial development, for tourism, agriculture and transportation of agricultural products”.
Meanwhile, the vice president of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Dario Scannapieco declared that this fund is an important step and that a bigger work should be done to increase competition and employement.
“I am really happy to be here and to sign this contract, a contract that will create 29 km new roads which will help in the improvement of heavy road traffic of Vlora, especially during summer season. For us it’s essential to support the economic growth of Albania, so that its role can be recognized even further, not only in the coasts of the Adriatic and Ionnian Seas, but also in the entire region, so that your country can be the epicenter of these projects that will take place in the region”, said Scannapieco.
The agreement with the EBRD is part of a co-funding project, together with the EU and EBRD, through the IPA funds, which mounts to a total value of 53 million EUR.
