TIRANA, September 13
Albania’s unemployment rate dipped below 12 percent. The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) reported in the recent publication of Quarterly Labor Force Survey, Q2 – 2017 that the official unemployment rate registered during the second quarter of the year was 13.9 percent, which is the lowest level since the fourth quarter of 2012.
Ever since the unemployment rate increased up to 18.2 percent at the beginning of 2014. This was the highest unemployment rate observed during the recent years. Afterward, it has seen a steady fall from the high of 18.2 percent to 13.9 percent.
Compared to the second quarter of 2016 the unemployment rate decreased by 1.6 percent.
What can be noticed in the report is that male unemployment rate is higher than the same rate for females. The former is at 14.9 percent while the latter is 12.5 percent.
Moreover, other important findings from the survey regarding employment confirm that the male employment rate is 64.1 percent, whereas for females it is 50.3 percent. Meanwhile, the youth employment rate is 33.6 percent while the same rate for people aged 30-64 is 68.6 percent.
