TIRANA, October 28
Monday, October 28th is the last day for opening a bank account for all taxable persons under VAT. The deadline has been extended because the initial deadline of October 26 was not a business day. The General Directorate of Taxation (DPT) reminds that the following categories must have a bank account:
Natural persons exercising commercial activity registered under VAT
Active juridical persons despite their turnover
Non-profit organizations registered at the tax administration
βThe aforementioned taxpayers, registered with the National Business Center (QKB) or Tax Administration, are required to open a bank account and file it with the Tax Administration by October 28th,β the announcement says.
The data can be filed at the tax administration electronically by using the e-fifing declaration.
Further on, the DPT clarifies that new taxpayers must open their banking account no later than 20 calendar days starting the day after the registration at the National Business Center or Tax Administration.
DPT also defined that taxpayers in the passive register and natural persons exercising commercial activity who are not subject to VAT are excluded from the obligation to open a banking account. However, they must declare an active bank account in case they change from a passive activity to active status or if they become subject to VAT.
The General Directorate of Taxation encourages taxpayers to comply with the legal obligation within the defined deadlines otherwise they will be subject to fines and penalties.
