The exports of non-processed tobacco produced in Albania increased significantly during the first quarter of this year. Statistics published by the Ministry confirm that tobacco exports doubled during this period, in comparison to the same period of a year before.
In 2016, Albania exported 146.2 tons of non-processed tobacco, while in 2015 the exported amount was 69.2 tons. Speaking of monetary values, Albania exported ALL 55.8 million tobacco during January – March of 2016, while in the same period in 2015 tobacco exports reached the value of ALL 23.3 million.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the increase of tobacco exports has come as a result of the subsidy schemes applied for tobacco producers. In Albania, tobacco is mainly produced in Shkodra and Elbasan cities.
