American companies have a keen interest in Albania’s potentials in the sector of hydrocarbons. This was confirmed by the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy in the Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources, Robin Dunnigan during a meeting that she and American Ambassador to Tirana Donald Lu held on Thursday with the Albanian Minister of Energy and Economy, Damian Gjiknuri.
The latter expressed gratitude the United States for the support provided through USAID program for the reformation of the Albanian energy sector. Moreover, Minister Gjiknuri praised the importance of the Southern Gas Corridor not only for Albania, but for the entire region of the West Balkans. He added that the work for the construction of access roads for the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which is part of the Southern Gas Corridor, will start within few days.
On her part, Dunnigan declared that this project has strategic importance for the US. Meanwhile, she confirmed support on the possibilities for branching out with the Ionian- Adriatic Pipeline (IAP).
The US can provide technical support to Albania in terms of the regulatory framework in the sector of electric power and hydrocarbons exploitation.
Dunnigan added that the US will have an active role in order to harmonize stances with the European Union (EU), thus to increase investments that are going strengthen networks for gas and electric power supply between the countries of Southeastern Europe.
