The Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri hosted a delegation of the United States of America and held a meeting with high ranked officials with the head of the U.S delegation Alina L. Romanowski, Christine Tefft, the chief of the Programme for Europe at the U.S State Department and the Director of USAID for Albania.
According to the Minister, the undertaken reforms in the energy sector have improved the liquidity in the sector and have restored the lawfulness in the consumption of electrical energy by Albanian citizens. “We achieved to reduce for the first time the necessity of this sector for financial guarantee by the government,” declared Gjiknuri at the meeting. The Minister also spoke about the legal reform in the energy sector which aims to compile a new law in compliance with the directives of the European Union and to change the tariff policies.
The government repaid the outstanding debts to private producers and this sector has become more reliable for financial institutions, given that second tier banks are showing interest, according to Minister of Energy. The energy sector in Albania is in need for investments and assistance from the U.S in order to increase the human capacities and expertise, said the Minister after praising the work of USAID in country.
