Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs ambassador Beatrice Maser and the Albanian Ministers of Energy and Industry and Finances signed on Wednesday (March 18) an agreement through which Switzerland gives Albania a fund of 6.6 million EUR for the expansion and the development of gas infrastructure.
Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri evaluated this fund as a very important assistance from Swiss government for the construction of domestic capacities of gas distribution in the country.
Gjiknuri declared: “The assistance provided by Switzerland through this agreement makes a reality the use of gas in Albania.” According to the Minister, Albania is willing to enhance cooperation with the Swiss government in the energy field, in increasing the efficiency of energy.
In turn, SECO’s Ambassador Beatrice Maser underlined the support of Swiss government for Albania and vowed that Switzerland will contribute and assist even in other fields in Albania. “Albania has still work to do in the improvement of the legal framework, one of the five recommendations of the European Union’s progress report for Albania,” stated Maser.
For the Minister of Finances, Mrs. Shkelqim Cani, this financing will help Albania in establishing an efficient gas infrastructure and will increase the usage of gas by families and businesses.
SECO has contributed in several projects in Albania, at a total amount of 77 million EUR.
