TIRANA, May 18
The Swiss and Austrian development agencies are working together with the Albanian Ministry of Urban Development in order to support a joint project on regional development in Albania. They allocated a fund of Euro 3 million for areas away from urban centers.
A part of the fund will be allocated to local power for community projects. Ambassador of Switzerland to Tirana, Christoph Graf said that this grant will support local power to have a voice in important matters. He added that groups of municipalities have to join forces and draft regional projects after consulting local communities and that economy and services development shouldn’t focus only in Tirana.

Afterward, the projects will be submitted for approval to the steering boards of the four regional agencies. Ambassador Graf highlighted that the fund aims at reaching neglected areas.
He said that the main purpose is to establish balanced regional development. Hence, it will bring social and economic balance in regions with potential and it will improve living conditions through community development. On his part, Austrian Ambassador Johan Sattler said that time has arrived to work for equal development in different parts of the country.
The projects will also support the government for drafting the legal framework for urban development.
