The National Swedish Agency of Statistics will assist INSTAT (Albanian Institute of Statistics) in the improvement of the existing statistic indicators and the compilation of new statistic indicators in accordance with EU standards. The two institutions signed a 2.8 million EUR agreement which will last in a period of three years (2014-2017).
The assistance consists of several requests and standards the Albanian Institute of Statistics must comply and meet in three years. The assistance program will be focused in improving the used methodology by INSTAT, the control of statistical indicators’ quality and the accuracy, aiming to comply the required standards by the EU in this field. The agreement was signed by the head of ISTAT Gjergj Filipi and Lisa Fredriksson, Chief of Cooperation and Development (at the same time Consul of the Swedish embassy to Tirana).
The assistance will give a bigger attention and importance to the transparency of the public statistics and presenting these as a public service. There will be also a program to increase the quantity of statistic data at a micro level, data that will be used for scientific researches or by public institutions. The Albanian Institute of Statistics is aiming to meet the required standards and demands by the EU, in the framework of the Albania’s integration process to the EU.
INSTAT will transform into a training center whose data will be used by other statistic agencies, which are part of the Albanian statistic system. The program will make possible the creation of new economic indicators, such as the Harmonized Index of Consumer Price, the Index of Prices and Services and the Index of Import Prices, based in the used methodology by the EU institutions.
The genre statistics will also be improved by creating new indicators and comparing them to the previous ones
