TIRANA, June 21
SmartWings, the low-cost brand of the Czech airline Travel Service is now offering the newest direct route from Prague to Tirana and vice-versa two times per week, on Monday and Thursday.
The Czech Embassy in Albania strongly lobbied for the launch of the new airline route, based on the high rate of Czech tourists influx that visit Albania.
As many as 14,000 Czech tourists visited Albania during 2016. The Airline hopes to keep the route operating even out-of-season. In the meantime, SmartWings expects that the new route will incite Albanian tourists to visit the Czech Republic.
The new itinerary will operate until the end of September. Afterward, the company will decide based on the balance sheet.
According to the company, the reduction of airport taxes will make possible to continue a year-round itinerary.
However, the sky-high airport taxes are reflected in the ticket price for the new Tirana-Prague route. Their prices cannot be considered close to those that low-cost carriers charge.
