Bank of Albania‘s Governor Gent Sejko declared at the last hearing session at the Economy parliamentary Commission that the bank is applying several easing policies which, according to him are stimulating the lending in Lek (Albanian currency).
Speaking about the performance of lending during the past year, official data from the Bank of Albania show that lending in Lek increased compared to the lending in foreign currencies. Lending in Lek reached 40% and protected them from the unpredicted effects of the exchange rates.
Sejko also spoke about the latest security measures taken by the institution he is in charge of, in order to increase the security at the Treasury Department, the computer system, the control procedures, ect. As for the increase of lending during the past year, the Governor declared that “the restructuration of loans has cleaned banks’ balances and the monetary policies are in the right direction.”
Days ago, the Bank of Albania declared that the interest rate of 2% will not change for the months to come, and regarding this Sejko declared that the change of the interest rates will not have an immediate impact in the economy.
