The Albanian Ministry of Agriculture made a press declaration regarding the embargo or Russia for Albanian agricultural exports. Russia has decided to put embargo for several European countries as revenge to the European Union for putting embargo on Russia. In response to this, Minister of Agriculture Edmond Panariti declared that the embargo of Russia has a political background and is not related to the quality of Albanian products.
The Minister said “de facto Albania is under the embargo of Russia for more than one year.” At the beginning, the Russian authorities claimed Albanian exports were in reality products of other European countries being exported to Russia by using certificates of quality issued by Albanian authorities. “We have communicated with Russian authorities and have improved our certificated with extra security elements”, added the Minister.
However, the embargo put by the Russian authorities has not hampered Albania to increase their agricultural exports in Europe and United States of America. “During the past year we doubled our exports and the Russian embargo does not affect the increase of agricultural exports. We are focusing in increasing exports in the US market and Ukraine,” said Panariti.
Albania exports its agricultural products in 18 countries and only in USA it covers about 70% of sage market. The Minister announced a scheduled official visit to Ukraine in September for signing a contract for massive exports, according to him.
