Rural Areas Development Agency (MADA) is implementing the project “Mountains to the market” worth 18 million USD, in support of farmers and rural economy in remote areas of the country.
The first component of the project relates to the development of rural markets and the strategy of investing in these areas. The second one is about the strategic investments in market entities. The creation of capacities and opportunities for women is also a priority for the project, in order to ensure technical assistance and trainings as part of a supporting and comprehensive package for women that live in rural areas and come from low budget families.
The fourth aspect where this project is focused in the environmental services in rural areas. This component aims to create an investments package in order to protect the environment.
Minister of Agriculture said on Thursday that the development of mountainous areas of the country will be in the attention of the Ministry of Agriculture in order to reduce poverty and increase the chance of employment. Minister of Agriculture attended the balance of the work done by the Agency for the Development of Mountain Areas, MADA and said that this has been a difficult year in terms of funding. But as Panariti assured, efforts are underway to ensure donors, so that farmers in remote areas to offer as much support as a tool for economic development.
MADA has made possible to take advantage of over 65 thousand farmers through its projects. Projects supported by grants from MADA are mainly in production, processing and marketing of agricultural products and livestock. An important attention has taken the tourism sector and handicrafts. MADA Agency was created in June of 2001.
