The third edition of Tirana Half Marathon, one of the most important sports events in Albania will take place on October 7. Based on the two previous successful editions of the marathon, this edition is expected to attract numerous participants, both athletes, and amateur runners. If you love to run and plan to participate in the marathon, you can also join and support an important cause. Millions of people around the world are forced to leave their houses and countries due to war, conflict, and climate change. Therefore, UNHCR Albania, TiRun Movement, and Athletic Club Fortis invite every individual to join the initiative Run for Refugees, as part of Tirana’s Half Marathon, which is the biggest sports event in the city, with participation in 2017 of more than 2500 athlete from 40 different countries around the world.
“The Purpose of Run for Refugees is to raise awareness and express solidarity for refugees as part of the 3rd edition of Tirana’s marathon of this year. The aim of UNHCR Albania, TiRun Movement, and Athletic Club Fortis is to have at least 100 participants to Run for Refugees initiative, spreading the message We Stand Together with Refugees and showing the solidarity with refugees. The supplementary message will be: Leave No One Behind, as a fundamental principle of Sustainable Development Goals where Tirana Municipality has given a great contribution in their implementation so far,” the announcement says.
Moreover, it clarifies that the participants are free to run in any of the categories of Tirana’s Half Marathon – 21.1K and 10K- and in accordance with its regulations.

Each participant on Run for Refugees will receive:
– Personalised T-shirt
– Joint running training events prior to the Half Marathon are organized by TiRun every Saturday from 08h00 to 09h00, meeting point The Frasheri Brothers’ Memorial at the Artificial Lake area.
– Free technical and basic training sessions prior to the Half Marathon, are organized by Athletic Club Fortis (coach Taulant Stermasi), every Saturday from 09h30 to 10h30.
– Thanking certificate from UNHCR at the end of the Tirana’s Half Marathon
