A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Roskovec Municipality and Bankers Petroleum Canadian-based Oil Company which operates in this area. Bankers Petroleum is the biggest foreign investor in Albania which operates in Patos-Marinze oil field and the relations between the company and the local inhabitants in Patos Marinze area tensioned after an explosion caused several damages in their houses months ago. Through this memorandum, Bankers will finance a project for the improvement of water supply in this municipality, based on an agreement signed on Thursday, September 17.
Present in the signing ceremony of the MoU were the Mayor of Roskovec Majlinda Bufi and the Vice President of Bankers Petroleum, Mark Hodkson, according to which this is a historic agreement which will be followed by several investments by Bankers in the Patos Marinze community. According to him, this is the first step towards a real public private partnership upon which Bankers will directly invest in the community because people that live here deserve more investments.
Bankers Petroleum has been accused for fiscal evasion and environment damage by the media.
