Although the import of merchandise that should pay the excise tax, such as oil, revenues collected by the excise tax have increased. The increase of the exciseβs level during the first months of this year has shown its positive effects in the increase of revenues allocated to the state budget by this tax.
The fiscal indicators issued by the Ministry of Finance show that during the first two months of this year, incomes from the excise tax reached 4.359 ml ALL, 699 thousand ALL more than in the same period of a year before. The most important element that has affected in the increase of revenues by the excise tax has been the effective war against fiscal evasion in the Customs administration.
The import of oil and tobaccos has decreased in the first two months of this year due to the policies of the government to reduce the amount of tobacco used by the citizens and by the decrease of the oil prices in the international market. This has reduced the amount of revenues which would have been collected by the excise tax, which these products are subject of, but the fight against informality in Custom points has increased revenues that come from the excise tax.
Albanian Customs have undertaken lately a campaign to raise awareness among businesses to do fair business, in cooperation with the British agency Crown Agents.
