“Rapiscan System” concessionary company and the government have reached an agreement for reducing the tariffs that companies have to pay at Custom points for the scanning of containers. The current tariff for this service according to the Ministry of Finances is EUR 39 but this will be reduced according to Minister of Finances Shkelqim Cani. For Custom declarations over EUR 1000, businesses will have to pay only EUR 22 as a tariff for scanning their containers while for declarations under this value, the tariff will be only EUR 5.
Rapiscan System company won the tender for the concession of scanning process of containers at the Albanian custom points on April of 2013. After the company started its activity in the country, many businesses complained for the high tariffs provided by the company and the then newly elected government after the elections held on June 21st of 2013 tried to disrupt the concessionary contract with Rapiscan System.
But the company sent the issue in the Arbitrage Court and asked EUR 350 million as compensation by the Albanian government. On Tuesday, July 7th 2015, the Minister of Finances declared that the government reached a new agreement with Rapiscan, amicably. According to the new agreement, Rapiscan System company will not profit EUR 316 million as it was foreseen in the first agreement in 2013, but only EUR 210 million for 15 years of activity in Albania.
