TIRANA, March 2
The Ministry of Economy reopened the race for Spitalla technical area even if the tender on this free economic area has failed three times. Based on the announcement made by the Ministry of Economy offers must be submitted by April 28. This initiative aims at providing industrial and commercial land to investors. The contract says that the user must develop, maintain and expand the free economic area located in Durres area for 99 years.
This area is situated nearby Durresi port, the largest and most important port in Albania and only 30 km away from Tirana International Airport and only 37 km away from capital city Tirana. The amount required for bid security is Lek 15 million.
Even if the bid failed, no changes to the project were made in order to attract more investors. Albania is the only country in the region that isnβt developing an industrial area. Meanwhile, foreign investors say that this is one of the factors that prevents them from exercising activities in Albania.
Currently, Spitalla is one of the best areas for turning into an industrial park as it has all the necessary infrastructure.
