TIRANA, October 18
The famous Queen Elisabeth, one of Cunard’s three oceans liner, sailed on Monday to Saranda Bay for the only reason of taking its guests to Butrint National Park. The ancient city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most visited places in Albania. Yet, Monday was a different day, as 2,000 visitors, who were travelling on board of Queen Elisabeth set foot in Albania only to visit Butrint Park. They were accompanied by the chair of the National, Coastal Agency, Auron Tare.
“Queen Elisabeth return again. The visit of this famous liner is another argument on the vision that 16 years ago mad possible the creation of this park and the protection of the surrounding landscape. This ship that dropped anchor only for Butrint brought 2,000 visitors and 1,000 members of staff. This is a great contribution to the local economy of Saranda,” Tare said.
Butrint National park is the example how archaeological tourism may become more efficient if many other sites become part of guided tours.
