TIRANA, July 4
The stock of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) for the first quarter of 2017 reached Euro 5.8 billion. Official data provided by the Bank of Albania (BoA) show that the value of domestic assets owned by foreigners increased by Euro 800 million.
What are the sectors that attracted more overseas investments?
According to BoA, investments in the sector of communication and information, which include telecommunication companies and call centers, rank first.
The stock of FDI in this sector during the first quarter of 2017 is Euro 1.2 billion. Meanwhile, the second favorite sector of foreign investors is the gas and electric power industry. This sector includes investments on hydro power plants concessions and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). BoA confirms that gas and electric power industry attracted more than Euro 1billion foreign investments during Q1.
Meanwhile, the financial sector ranks third with Euro 952 million.
Currently, Greece remains the major shareholder in the Albanian economy. The value of assets owned by Greek companies in Albania reach the value of Euro 1.2 billion. Moreover, Dutch investors rank second. The value of their investments in Albania is Euro 870 million.
