TIRANA, November 9
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is providing a loan of Euro 34 million for the rehabilitation of Tirana-Durres railway and the construction of railway line between Tirana and Tirana International Airport (TIA). So far the board has not approved the proved the project, which has passed the final review. EBRD says that the board must take a decision by December 14.
The Project is part of Route 2 of the Western Balkans Core Network connecting the cities of Podgorica in Montenegro and Vlora in Albania and has been established as an indicative extension to the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) to the Western Balkans core railway network.
EBRD also says that this project will support the economic development of Albania and also contribute to the country’s regional integration as it will improve connectivity with Durres Port and the airport.
Moreover, the project will include sector reform and institutional strengthening measures in areas such as green economy, asset management plan and Track Access Charges and IFRS accounting.
