Prices of vegetables and fruits decreased by 17% in May, comparing them to prices recorded during April, due to the increase of the offer by producers. Despite this decrease, official figures from INSTAT show that prices of fruits and vegetables increased about 11% more than in May of last year.
These data show that the massive floods in the beginning of this year did not have influence in the production and did not damage the seasonal crops. This is related to the increase of investments in greenhouses during this year, which have increased the level of production.
INSTAT data show that the prices of “food, vegetables and tobacco” products increased with 26.7% in March of this year. Each year, the price of vegetables increases during the spring season while in August-September period they decrease tremendously.
