The European Investment Bank in the framework of the Western Balkan Investment (WBIF) authorized the preparation of the gas master plan for Albania and the plan on projects’ identification. The news was confirmed by the Ministry of Energy and Industry.
The project supported by the European Commission will have a value estimated of Euro 1.1 million. It includes the drafting of a comprehensive master plan for a medium term on natural gas. The master plan is going to scrutinize all the legal, technical, economic and social aspects that are related to the installation of natural gas supply in several regions of Albania.
This project is being applied upon the request of the Albanian Ministry of Energy and Industry, funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The latter can act as a potential funder for primary projects which will be involved in the study preparation.
The development of domestic knowledge, skills and expertise within Albanian institutions in relation to the development of the gas system is a key aspect of the technical assistance which will be secured.
The study will examine potential gas resources in Albania and includes domestic exploration, gas from the Ionian-Adriatic pipeline (after the construction), supplies through TAP/TANAP, a potential underground storage of gas and the terminal of Liquid Natural Gas. The project is planned to be completed in November 2016.
