During January – July period of this year, ferries anchored in Port of Durres have increased significantly their activity, according to official data released by the Port of Durres administration. The figures made public by the Statistics Department show that large vehicles have transported via ferry 223 thousand tons of merchandises, circa 12 thousand tons more compared to the same period in 2014.
Statistics also show that during this period, about 310 thousand persons traveled by ferries anchored in Port of Durres, 54.759 passenger cars, 34.411 trucks and 3436 trailers. The number of trucks which chose Port of Durres to travel was 4% higher than during January-July 2014.
Port of Durrës or is the largest port of Albania, situated in Durrës city. It is an artificial basin that is formed between two moles, with a west-northwesterly oriented entrance approximately 183 metres (600 ft) wide as it passes between the ends of the moles. The Port of Durrës is located at the north end of the Bay of Durrës, an extensive body of water between Turra Castle and Cape Durrës (located approximately 1.6 kilometres west of the Port of Durrës.)
