The number of new businesses that have been launched during 2014 has increased by 43 percent, but the number of new active corporations increased only by 1.3 percent.
According to the data issued by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), the increase in the number of private businesses was modest. On the other hand, it has been noticed that private activity was focused on the re-orientation of their business. Based on INSTAT’s data, trade and services prevail in the Albanian economy. They make about 85 percent out of the total number of corporations.
Agriculture is the sector that marked the highest growth of active corporations during 2014. Meanwhile, some 1,018 businesses with foreign or joint capital were registered during the previous year and this means 13percent more compared to 2013. Moreover, even the number of active corporations with foreign capital marked a growth at the same levels.
The number of businesses with foreign or joint capital is mainly focused on the sector of trade and service. Currently, there are some 5,245 active foreign businesses. About 70 percent of these companies are operating in the sector of services while the remained 30 percent has invested in other sectors of the economy.
