The approved state budget for 2016 which entered in force on January 1st provides several changes in the tax system. The government has decided to increase the gross written premium tax from 3% to 10%. This is expected to increase the prices of products offered by insurance companies.
Registration and annual taxes for vehicles have increased respectively to ALL 70 000 and ALL 21 000 while a new tax will be applied to luxury vehicles worth more than EUR 50 000.
The land tax scheme has changed and has been divided into four new categories based on the categorization of counties. Based on their location, citizens have to pay land taxes from 1400 ALL/hectares to 5600 ALL / hectares.
Other increased taxes include the hotel occupancy tax which has increased to ALL 140, while the tax on the impact in the infrastructure has increased to 8% of the total value of the construction in Tirana city.
