New Parking Lots for Tourists in Berat

TIRANA, October 11, 2016

Berat is officially one of the most visited sites in the country both by Albanian and international tourists due to its historical and cultural values.

Given that the number of visitors increased significantly during the recent years, the Municipality of Berat is taking into consideration a parking solution for the visitors that travel with their own vehicles.

Therefore, the institutions will start discussions with representatives of the World Bank and the Albanian Development Fund on the place and type of parking lot that will be built for tourists. Specialists form the Municipality propose the idea that the parking lot should be included on the project on the rehabilitation of the road that leads to the castle ‘Kala’ neighborhood.

Interventions on the road widening and maintenance would provide parking space for tourists that come from other districts or cities and want to visit the old castle and the cult monuments that are found in the area such as Onufri Museum. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Berat is a year-round destination and this year, the number of visitors increased by 50 percent compared to the previous year.
