The Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani, declared in a press conference that the negotiations with the IMF delegation are opened and the discussions must continue regarding the budget and the fiscal package for 2015. “We agreed to IMF to continue our efforts in the reduction of the public debt, starting by 2015”, stated Minister Cani. According to Cani, the draft of the budget review will pass in the Assembly with an accelerated procedure.
The IMF delegation visited Tirana on August 26th – September 9th, and held talks with the Minister of Finances, the Minister of Trade and Economic Development and with high officials of Central Bank. The focus of the discussions were made in the framework of the second review of Extended Fund Facility Arrangement.
The negotiations and the finalization of the review will continue from Washington. The IMF delegation will return to Albania in order to finalize its mission in a later date”, is stated in a recent IMF press release. The representative of IMF for Albania, Mr. Jeinc Reinke, announced that in the upcoming days the IMF officials will held a press conference. They will publish the results of the negotiations with the Albanian government and the conclusions regarding the fiscal and economic situation of the country.
The Albanian government and International Monetary Fund have signed a new agreement for cooperation after the elections held on June 2013.
