The Ministry of Finances will issue within April a verbal report on the bilateral programme of assistance of Crown Agents and the Albanian Customs to date, said the Minister of Finances Shkelqim Cani at the parliamentary Economy Commission on Monday.
Cani declared that the contract reached between the Ministry of Finances and the British company is a two year term contract and that the programme of Albanian Customs and Crown Agents did not make the performance it was expected.
In this regard, Albania has expressed discontent at the International Monetary Fund for programme’s performance in assisting the Customs administration. According to the agreement, after the implementation of the programme, the revenues collected by the General Directorate of Customs would increase by EUR 90 million in a two year period (2013-2015).
On January of this year, the International Monetary Fund declared in a conference that “the work of Crown Agents to Albania will continue”. “The main problem is the non stable application of evaluation regulations and informality procedures,” says the IMF report.
Crown Agents assistance to Albanian Customs consisted in assisting the inspectors in partial and complete inspections in fighting informality and in the compilation of the new Code of Customs which got approved on November 2014 by the parliament.
The cost of Albania –Crown Agents agreement is predicted to be EUR 8.5 million, declared the Ministry of Finances.
