The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced in a press declaration that the agricultural production in Albania is not risked by the bacterial infection which has spread in the past days in southern of Italy. The infection has caused the damage of many olive trees, citrus and grapes.
According to the press release, the Ministry of Agriculture says that the conducted analysis in the international laboratory centers have shown that this virus will not be spread in the Albanian territory. “The Ministry of Agriculture excludes the possibility of the spread of this virus in Albania,” states the official release.
The southern parts of Italy and Albania are close in territorial terms and cultivate the same types of plants, such olive trees and citrus. In recent years, Albanian farmers have increased the cultivation of olive trees and the processing of olives.
The preliminary measure taken by the Ministry of Agriculture to prevent the spread of the Italian virus in the territory of Albania has been the prevention of farmers to import olive trees from Italy.
